Mr. Serge Weinberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sanofi, the global integrated healthcare company signed a ‘Letter of Intent’ with Koç University, one of the leading universities in Turkey and among top 250 worldwide, to establish a strategic collaboration with the aim of enhancing the information available in the human healthcare sector and creating an innovation environment by ensuring the development of basic and applied research.
Within the program of the official visit by French President François Hollande to Turkey on January 27th- 28th, Mr. Serge Weinberg, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sanofi signed the Letter of Intent (LoI) with Koc University. Through this Letter of Intent, Sanofi and Koç University intend to establish a strategic collaboration on research and development in pharmaceuticals to explore possibilities to improve and commercialize the treatment, diagnosis and medical prognosis practices.
The signature ceremony was held during Turkish-French Economic Forum hosted by Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) and Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) on January 28th in Istanbul.
Mr. Jacques Nathan, Sanofi Turkey Country Manager stated that, “We are all committed for scientific discoveries for the benefit of patients and we will accelerate the provision of more effective and targeted treatments. The fundamental aim of this Letter of Intent (LoI) is to develop a joint scientific platform with the aim of enhancing the information available in the human healthcare sector, and creating an innovation environment by ensuring the development of basic and applied research. We are very pleased to collaborate with Koç University, one of Turkey’s top class academic centers, and to share with this distinguished institute our determination to place patients’ health at the center of our efforts through research and development.
Having underlined that the Turkish pharmaceutical industry has a significant potential in the field of research and development, Mr. Nathan added that, ‘I am confident that this partnership would take the advantage of the joint know-how in research and development of Sanofi and Koc University to develop innovative approaches faster and make them accessible to patients.’
Prof. Dr. Irsadi Aksun, the Vice President for Research and Development of Koç University, stated that ‘The development of an ecosystem for innovation through research and development holds a critical importance for Turkey. This new collaboration is consistent with our objective to increase innovation in research and development through scientific partnerships.
